The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) opened an anti-dumping investigation in June 2021. The investigation covered aluminium bars, rods, profiles, tubes and pipes that entered the UK market during the investigation period.

The TRA has now found that the products under investigation have been sold into the UK market at prices below normal value, and that the dumping has caused injury to UK producers. Therefore, the TRA has pre-disclosed on May 20, 2022 its intention to impose provisional anti-dumping duties ranging between 9.5% and 128.2%.

“The TRA’s decision to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on Chinese aluminium extrusions comes as a welcomed corrective measure, aiming to restore fair competition and a level playing field in the UK market,” said Paul Warton, Executive Vice President and Head of Hydro Extrusions.

The provisional duties are expected to enter into force on May 28, 2022, but the TRA’s investigation will continue and the final decision is expected to be made within 6 months. At that point, the tariffs may be confirmed as definitive or modified and the tariffs are normally in place for 5 years.

Hydro continues to work closely with the TRA to achieve a fair final decision.
