The awards program recognizes exemplary accomplishments in 15 categories and is hosted by S&P Global Platts, the leading independent provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets.
“I am very proud that we managed to win these awards, especially the recognition for Hydro CIRCAL which is something that we have worked so hard on for this last year. This is a true testament to the Hydro organization and the work that is being done across the company,” says Hilde Merete Aasheim, President & CEO of Hydro.
The Metals Company of the Year Award is the most prestigious award with no nomination in advance and where the judges select the winner from the total list of finalists. In selecting the winner in this category, the judges were looking for all around excellence, executing a total metal strategy.
The program's independent panel of judges gave the follow rationale for the awards in the respective categories:
Aluminium Industry Leadership Award (Hydro)
“Our panel of judges was impressed by the company’s focus on sustainability and industry leading low-carbon footprint. Moreover, the company managed a remarkable and swift comeback from a significant cyber-attack.”
Breakthrough Solution of the Year Award (Hydro CIRCAL)
“Our panel of judges was particularly impressed with the ability to turn scrap into products with the same property as primary aluminium with the use of 75 percent or more recycled aluminium.”
Metals company of the Year award (Hydro)
“The panel of judges was particularly impressed the company’s recycling and the leadership of the CEO. They were also impressed by the fact that the company has a plan for 2030. ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and CSR (corporate social responsibility) are very strong, making it a complete organization. The company’s fearlessness and rebound from a cyber-attack without paying any ransom demonstrate courage that has also impressed the judges.”
